Jiddah
Ciudad (pob., 1992: 2.046.251 hab.) del oeste de Arabia Saudita.

Situada a orillas del mar Rojo, es la capital diplomática y uno de los principales puertos del país. Su nombre (que significa "antepasada o "abuela) deriva de la existencia en ella de una tumba supuestamente de Eva, que gobierno saudí destruyó en 1928. Ha sido durante muchos años el puerto de entrada de los peregrinos musulmanes en ruta hacia las ciudades sagradas de La Meca y Medina. Perteneció al Imperio otomano hasta 1916, año en que se rindió a las fuerzas británicas durante la primera guerra mundial (1914–18). En 1925 la capturó el líder tribal Ibn Sa'ud y en 1927 fue incorporada a Arabia Saudita.
